Sports medicine is the prevention and treatment of sports related injuries. Our team of physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapist and other professionals provide the highest quality care to you when you've been sidelined due to an injury.

Athletic Training Service
Our licensed athletic trainers are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians in providing injury prevention, evaluation, emergency care and rehabilitation to athletes.
Our sports medicine program currently supplies athletic training services to area high schools, colleges and community athletic programs. Working to keep your athletes on top of their game, our athletic trainers provide services such as:

Outpatient Rehabilitation
The West Bend Clinic Rehabilitation Center uses a team approach when it comes to athletic injuries. Our physical therapists are highly trained in sports related injuries and will work closely with your physician and other members of rehabilitation staff to return you to your sport or activity as quick as possible.
Free Sports Injury Assessment
The West Bend Clinic Rehabilitation Center offers a free Sports Injury Assessment available to athletes of all ages and skill levels. The purpose of the assessment is to provide you with non-emergent sports related injuries, free and quick access to an initial recommendation. A licensed athletic trainer will perform the assessment, and then make referrals to primary care physicians and/or orthopedic surgeons, as appropriate.

Community Education
Our sports medicine program is actively involved in educating our area's athletes, coaches, and parents on specific sports related issues. We believe that educational programming is an integral factor to our success and include topics such as:

High School Sports Physicals
Our high school sports physicals provide families an inexpensive option to obtain the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) required physical exam necessary to enroll in high school sports. The exam consists of both a medical and orthopedic evaluation and is conducted by a family practice physician, physical therapist and athletic trainer. A voluntary asthma screening and education is also be available which is provided by a registered nurse and the Breathe Free Asthma Education program at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Sports Skills Clinics
Our team of orthopedics surgeons, physical therapists and athletic trainers conduct annual sports skills clinics within the community. These clinics provide our youth athletes with valuable information and skills to become better athletes and team players. In addition, educational sessions are offered to the parents and coaches on topics that relate to youth athletes.
As part of our commitment to the community, these sessions are free of charge and have included:
- Spring Warm-Up, baseball clinic for boys grades 5-8
- Hoops Clinic, basketball clinic for girls grades 5-8

Sports Concussion Management
The care and treatment of head injuries in sports is changing rapidly as more research is being done in this area than ever before. In an effort to provide the very best care in sports concussion management, the West Bend Clinic has partnered with the Wisconsin Sports Concussion Collaborative to implement an innovative program that uses a software tool called ImPACT®. ImPACT is a computerized exam developed by concussion experts at the University of Pittsburgh Medicinal Center and is used by many professional, collegiate, and high school sports programs across the county to assist with the diagnosis and management of head injuries. Neurocognitive tests such as ImPACT are fast becoming the "gold standard" in recognizing and managing head injuries.
Athletic Organizations Training Room
The West Bend Clinic Rehabilitation Center and Sports Medicine Program offers our local sports teams access to expert injury evaluation similar to the high school, college and professional programs. Our Rehabilitation Center is open, free of charge, to your organizations athletes suffering from pain, strains or injuries. The program includes:
- Licensed athletic trainers available to evaluate non-emergent sports injuries
- Provide recommendations
- Physical therapists and licensed athletic trainers can work together with parents, physicians and coaches to get athletes back in the game
